Alt Tag Confirmed by Google as Ranking Factor - On this day in 2007, Matt Cutts explained the purpose of alt tags to both users and search engines. He confirmed that relevant alt tags improved the chances of ranking organically. He also warned to not go overboard with keyword stuffing and using lots of words.
